Thought of the Day
U.S. Congressman Marsha Blackburn 7th District of Tennessee
My colleagues are celebrating the birth of a great new entitlement program today. Only they see dependency on the federal government and the death of freedom as cause for celebration…Freedom dies a little bit today. Unfortunately some are celebrating.
I could not agree more with Rep. Blackburn. Yesterday, Congress passed a unipartisan healthcare reform bill that will forever change the dynamic of freedom in the United States. The saddest part is, for all the talk about bipartisanship by the Democrats, their agenda was made entirely clear when the fact that not receiving a single Republican vote did not stop them from seeing this bill through the House. Add to this the number of bought votes and the general procedure used to pass it, this bill is a complete disaster to the framework of our legislative system. I can only hope that the legal battles brought forth by nearly 40 states and the potential for drastic change of the federal legislature in November 2010 can limit or eliminate the imminent threat this bill presents. The threat of death to the freedom set forth in the foundation of this country and the rise of the infectious plague of socialism that may soon follow. God Bless America! Be strong with us through this tumultuous time. I only hope that myself and future generations do not continue to pay the consequences for the mistakes being made on Capitol Hill.

Thomas Jefferson 3rd President of United States
“Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms [of government] those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.”
Following suit from my previous thought by James Madison, we are slowly seeing the fears of our Founding Fathers come to realization. The American people need to stand up today and say that we will no longer watch our freedom slip away gradually—one bill at a time. Today is the day we take back our freedom and start on the track back to the principles of our beginning. If not, I fear what my children and my children’s children will be forced to do in years to come.

George W. Bush 43rd President of the United States
“America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our people.”
Nor should it. Recent polls show that the American people do not feel as though Obama and the Democrats have the necessary handle on national security. Adding to this, the dilemma whether to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his conspirators in New York City versus a military tribunal has not helped the cause. I only hope that this decay in the polls carries over into the midterm elections. The American people need to stand up for what is important come November. Clearly, the American people need to see leaders they can trust. These polls may be a good indication of where that trust lies.

Thought of the Day
Winston Churchill Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
“A politician needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn’t happen.”
This raises a great question. How good are the current leaders of the United States at being politicians by Churchill’s standards? I would say based on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, not very good. Problem is, the leaders in Congress and Mr. Obama are doing a great job of spending money now, only to be paid by those (myself, my children, and my grandchildren) in the future. The problem with this is, without the ability to predict the future, there is no way to effectively assume that this spending will: 1) provide the desired effect now or ten years from now 2) not send the country into a financial crisis down the road. Congress, I plead with you for the future of this great nation. Please stop spending money we do not have. The money to pay these expenditures may not be there in the future in a greater time of need. In the end, Mr. Obama’s administration and the Democratic-controlled Congress have shown us they are good at the explaining why something did not happen. I just do not want this to be the case in twenty years when it can all be resolved in the present.
